Hoshi Sudoku, also known as Star Sudoku, is a logic-based number puzzle inspired by the classic Sudoku. It differs from traditional Sudoku in its destinctive star shaped grid made up from a series of triangles. As with traditional sudoku, there rules are simple, but implementing them is deceptively tricky. Each triangle and each row can only include one of each number from 1 – 9.
Here’s a breakdown of the rules and some helpful tips to conquer this challenging puzzle.
Rules
- Six Large Triangles: The puzzle consists of six large triangles arranged in a star shape.
- Number Placement: Each triangle contains nine triangular cells, and you must fill these cells with the numbers 1 to 9.
- Line Exclusion: No number can appear more than once in any line, whether it’s a continuous line or a combination of lines that form a shape. This includes horizontal, vertical, and diagonal lines.
Solving Tips
- Scan for Known Numbers: Start by identifying the numbers already present in the puzzle. Look for these numbers as you fill in the remaining cells.
- Deduction: Identify where you know numbers can’t be placed as well as where they can.
- Identify Constraints: Observe the lines and triangles that contain known numbers. Eliminate those numbers from the remaining cells within those lines and triangles.
- Review and Refine: As you fill in more cells, revisit your previous deductions and make sure they still hold true. The puzzle may have changed, and you may need to modify your strategies.
